Meaning & Origin of BROOKLYN JOSEPH: Brooklyn is traditionally a girls name of English origin, meaning "water, stream". Joseph is of Hebrew origin, to mean "God shall add". Joseph is also the name of the father of Jesus & husband of Mary in the Bible, as well as the son of Jacob who was sold into slavery by his brothers and went on to become a supreme leader of Egypt

Victoria has gone on record to say that they chose Brooklyn for their first born to reflect the New York borough of the same name where they were when they found out she was pregnant, and not where he was conceived, as had been widely speculated. Brooklyn is a place she had always liked - in fact in her autobiography, Learning to Fly, she even calls it "very multi cultural and very grounded". It was here the couple went to shun the spotlight following David's fall from grace during the World Cup in 1998 where he was sensationally sent off prior to the end of the game, in which England went on to lose, being one player down as a result of his penalty. She goes on to say she always liked the name Brooke and wanted to make it more "blokey".
